The Recipe
As the Autumnal weather settles in, this delicious golden curry pairs well with our Cuisine Magazine’s 5 Star award winning Lawson’s Dry Hills 2024 Gewürztraminer.
Japanese curry with crunchy katsu is always super popular and delicious! We thank Cuisine Magazine for sharing their Curry Udon with Tofu Katsu recipe by Fiona Smith, which pairs beautifully with our Gewürztraminer wines. You can discover the recipe here. It serves delightfully with cucumber and spring onion, or as the weather cools, steamed greens.
Our 5 Star Wine Match
Gewürztraminer is where it all began for our founders Ross and Barbara Lawson, who originally planted this grape at our home block on Alabama Road. If you visit our Cellar Door, you’ll still see Gewurz vines growing here today. Gewürztraminer means “Spicy Traminer” in German, which is fitting since this white wine grape is known for its exotic aromas like rose petal, lychee, and ginger, and is often paired with Asian cuisine.
In addition to Cuisine Magazine’s 5 stars, this wine was recently awarded 92 points by Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier. This is what he had to say in The Shout, March 2025:
“A classic bouquet of intensity and freshness, floral and fruit-centric with exotic scents of fresh apples and pears, white pepper and quince. There’s a whisper of ginger and white nectarine, then a minerality showing as stone. Just dry on the palate, with a silky texture, core fruit flavours of pomaceous fruits and white nectarine, plenty of exotic spices, and a definitive acid line with a saline flick on the finish. Delicious and ready to drink from day of purchase through 2028.”
