Blind River Tekau Sauvignon Blanc 2023

Enjoy this rich and diverse style of Sauvignon Blanc from our beautiful Blind River vineyard in the Awatere Valley. Wild fermentation and maturation in barrel adds layers of complexity to this wine, from brioche and smoky aromatics to passion fruit and notes of pineapple. Full of flavour while young and fresh, this wine will also reward cellaring for five or so years. Only a very small amount produced.

Blind River Tekau Sauvignon Blanc 2023

Crème brulee, ripe, tropical fruit and toasty, smoky characters on the nose lead to a rich and rewarding palate. Juicy pineapple with a balancing streak of citrussy acidity topped off with gentle spice deliver a layered and complex wine. Delicious and highly memorable.

Vineyards and viticulture

From two-cane pruned vines on our beautiful Blind River vineyard in the Awatere Valley, we picked this Sauvignon Blanc with lovely ripe, intense flavours and perfect balance of acidity. Harvested 9th and 10th of March 2023 at 21.9 and 22.6 brix brix.

Winemaking

The grapes were gently pressed and juice went straight into French barriques. The wild fermentation was all with indigenous yeast, so no cultured yeasts were added. The wine was matured on lees in barrel for a further ten months.

Food Pairing

Although delicious to sip as a glass on its own, this wine pairs perfectly with many foods. From chicken and pork to vegetarian dishes, it works with earthy or fresh flavours, roasted, chargrilled and sauteed ingredients.
