Winemaker’s love affair with the written word

Marcus Wright, Chief Winemaker, tells us his love of books began at a young age; probably due to the influence of his parents, who always had their noses in a book, he says.

“Not only does reading transport you to a different time and place, but it also puts you in someone else’s shoes ‒ it’s a great empathy generator” says Marcus.

The award-winning winemaker tells us that he usually reads a few of the author’s books before the festival, and this year has booked into four sessions. He loves listening to the authors talk about their work, and how the writer’s mind works. You can read more about his love affair with the written word here.

Lawson’s Dry Hills was delighted again to sponsor the Marlborough Book Festival 18-20 July. It was a chance to hear from acclaimed novelists, history champions, identity explorers and much more. It’s our pleasure to offer a selection of our Reserve wines to enjoy or perhaps try a glass of our 5 Star award-winning signature Gewürztraminer.

The festival is a great chance for eager and curious readers to listen to their favourite authors share the journey behind each book.

Follow us on Instagram Stories to discover what the rest of the LDH team are reading while stealing a moment out of their day at the winery.
