What does Single Vineyard mean?

It means the grapes that made the wine are from just one vineyard, rather than blended from a number of different vineyards. Our Blind River Sauvignon Blanc is a Single Vineyard wine, and our Riesling.

Do you own your own vineyards?

We do! We have company vineyards in the Awatere, Wairau and Southern Valleys. We also have a number of carefully selected long-term growers. You can see our vineyard map here.

How many bunches of grapes make a bottle of wine?

What is AMW?

AMW stands for Appellation Marlborough Wine. It was established to protect the core values of wine grown and made in Marlborough.

What’s the difference between the estate, reserve and pioneer series?

Our Estate range is perfect for everyday enjoyment, delivering an authentic expression of the grape variety and where it is grown. The Reserve wines are more limited and embrace additional winemaking techniques – they are ideal for a dinner when you want to enjoy something a bit special. The Pioneer wines are only made in outstanding years and often start with a parcel of fruit identified in the vineyard as having Pioneer potential. Very small quantities are produced.

What’s different about your wines, your wine making philosophy, compared to others? What are some unique LDH things??

Well, as it says on the back label of our Lawson’s Dry Hills wines…. We honour tradition, but we do things our way and have done for over 30 years. We’re jeans not suits, mates not colleagues and morning tea over meetings, but we take making wine seriously. So much so that we do the lot, from growing grapes to making and bottling our 100% certified sustainable wine at our Toitū net carbonzero certified winery.
