The Pioneer Gewurztraminer 2022 – Trophy at the Global Fine Wine Challenge

The Lawson’s Dry Hills Pioneer Gewurztraminer 2022 received the trophy for Aromatic White Wines at the 2023 Global Fine Wine Challenge!

Exclusive to the nations of the New World, this challenge is accessible by invitation only and is restricted to the top 120 wines of each country competing – Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa & the USA. The very best selections across 22 classes are made by country representatives in light of their intimate knowledge of their own nation’s wines. These are transported to Sydney and judged blind to discover the best that the New World has to offer.

And we love the judges’ comments:

  • “Intense gewurztraminer nose, very spicy and superbly fragrant, oily texture, full fat and rich on palate. Alcohol/glycerol warmth and texture. Very Good, and not overly sweet.”  Huon  Hooke
  • “Rose petal aromas.  The front palate is highly sweet fruited. Good varietal character. Juicy.” Toni Paterson MW
  • “Classic, fresh, fruit cup, floral, lychee, rose water, soapy fresh, clean, complex and layered, balanced.” Anthony Mueller
  • “Hedonistic; Turkish delight, dried rose petal. Musk. Beautifully fragrant. Off dry with masses of varietal character. Not blowsy but perfectly poised. Really lovely. Very persistent.” Jane Skilton MW

We were awarded runner up (out of nine finalists) in the ‘Climate Action Leader’ category sponsored by Waka Kotahi. The second was at the New Zealand International Business Awards run by New Zealand Trade & Enterprise where we received the award for ‘Excellence in Sustainability’ sponsored by Kiwibank.

Awards 2023 C.A.L. Commendation

This award recognises organisations that embed sustainability into the fabric of their business, achieving international growth while having a positive impact on people and the planet.

The judges said “Lawson’s Dry Hills Wines are leaders of sustainability in their industry and it makes them stand out from the pack. Sustainability is clearly embedded throughout the business. The company demonstrated clear maturity and understanding of the different drivers of verification and certification. Lawson’s Dry Hills knew what they were doing, and they did it for the industry.”

Our General Manager, Sion said, “What a night! We were delighted to be recognised at the Sustainable Business Awards, but to then receive the Excellence in Sustainability Award at the NZIBA was almost unbelievable!” He continued, “Receiving these awards is true recognition of something we’ve been doing for well over a decade. It’s just what we do.”

Well done LDH team!!
